Fly Tying: San Jac Squirrel Featured on "Panfish On The Fly"

Fly tying instructions for our original fly pattern, The San Jac Squirrel, is now on PanfishOnTheFly.com! We are very happy to have the fly featured on the “Blog” page. Head over to Panfish On The Fly to check it out!

Panfish On The Fly was created by Bart Lombardo in 2016. Bart has been fly fishing all over the country for the past 30 years, but to this day he still remembers the first fish that he caught on a fly rod, a bluegill. Bart’s website, PanfishOnTheFly.com was created to provide information on fly fishing and fly tying for panfish and other warmwater species. As stated on his website, “Why wait for the annual trip to trout country to pick up that fly rod. You have fish living right in your backyard that are just waiting to grab your fly. Bluegills and other panfish are found everywhere!”. This is a sentiment with which we wholeheartedly agree.

Bart’s website is loaded with information on various panfish species, angling tactics, and fly tying tutorials. You can spend hours perusing the pages and learning from the decades of angling experience that Bart and the other contributors have to offer. In addition to a wealth of information, Panfish On the Fly also sells an assortment of fly tying materials. One of my favorite patterns, the Triangle Bug, is a simple topwater pattern that is quick to tie and performs well on the creeks of Sam Houston National Forest, especially during the summer months.
